Discovering Greece.

Over the year I had taken many holiday on Greek Islands. I had been to the lovely and fun island of Mykonos, the larger and changeable island of Rhodes, the beautiful island of Kos and I’d also been to Kephalonia, which is famously the setting for the film ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’. All of the islands were absolutely beautiful, and every time I had been across there I had found absolutely fabulous weather, wonderful people and great food all at a good price.

I though that I had already discovered the best Greece had to offer, but when I met a Greek man in England and rally started to speak to him about the place, I realised that what I had seen was only the tip of the iceberg. My friend George actually came from Kos, but he had moved to the mainland when he was twenty. He was surprised himself, to discover a place far more beautiful and much less spoilt by the ravages of tourism.

After discussing where best to go with George, I eventually got online and booked myself some Athens flights. He said that Athens was the most beautiful and interesting place that he had ever been, and I was happy to take his word for it.

I boarded the plane full of excitement. I felt like I was finally going to discover the real Greece.
